There are sound effects and music in the game, but I couldn't manage to record with sound.
The Very First Render
I had only 3 sprites then. The hero and 2 variations of the ground tiles. If you look closely they are quite obvious. The map was a hard-coded 2 dimensional array.
Later I refactored to render on an off-screen surface and then stamp a scaled version of it to perform the actual rendering. But before that I was painstakingly stamping all my sprites at a certain zoom level directly on screen.
Monsters and Food
I have added the monsters to provide some kind of a challenge but they ended up being too easy to evade. Even in the final version unless you choose to mess with them, monsters are not a big deal.
I have animated the player and the monsters. Even the food has this little fade-out animation when you consume them. There are still 2 ground tiles. The blend much better but this time the ground doesn't at all look like ground.
I have made the map bigger. Also the monsters and a primitive A.I. and the map generation is random. Finally they mysterious bars at the top got labels.
I added the menu and other screens such as the victory screen and the death screen last. Oh, yes, the game ends. Just survive.
